That was my initial thought regarding the RC-F (only at 2x the price) when it showed up today for a week-long drive. First impressions: yeah, 4,000lb is pretty damn hefty for a sport coupe but 467hp does an admirable job of overcoming inertia. And the sound is incredible when you romp on it - until you read (as I just did) that it’s enhanced electronically. Mixed feelings about that; it’s kinda like hooking up with Sofia Vergara only to realize it was just a Total Recall-like illusion. But whatever, you’re still haulin’ ass with this one. Even in the normal suspension setting body lean in pretty aggressive cornering is almost imperceptible.

It’s gonna be a fun week.

I’ve always wanted to drive one of these and subsequently fall in love and be screwed As they’re way out of my price range. Same reason I’ve never drove a CTS-V...

I want a big sedan with a loud V8 so bad...

Somehow I knew someone was going to post one of these. Here’s what we have locally that I really want...

http://kansascity.craigslist.org/cto/5116214229…

Not necessarily that exact one, but the blue with black steelies theme for sure.

What right does an impractical coupe have to be both UGLY, and HEAVY?

What is it made of? Lead?

Evidently Lexus has been studying at the BMW school of density maximization.

I could buy a brand new, fully loaded Mustang GT, and aftermarket re-dressing into a Mach 1, exhaust, tune, and have a car with the same or better power to weight ratio, and would look great.

I am not seeing much upside to this Lexus. It is really unfortunate the way to style a coupe that has no other purpose, aesthetically, than to look great, otherwise what is the point? Sedans and other more practical vehicles can have tons of power, and weight two tons, also.

Some folks just don’t want four doors I suppose. I doubt buyers are cross-shopping this car and Mustangs though.

That is just it... What is the point of a coupe that isn’t pretty to look at?

For those who don’t want four doors, it is usually for the better looks, and lower weight, allowed by not needing the extra doors or the more expansive rear seat interior volume. This has neither.

What reason is there to settle for something ugly, when a Coupe has no justification to look anything less than good? And there are other competitors that do look good.

And for those who don’t care about looks, or light weight, and just want power, there are more practical body styles that STILL look better than this coupe does. Charger Hellcat, M3 sedan, or a Benz wearing an AMG badge, for instance.

BMW M4 coupe is over-styled, but not this badly styled. Merc E-Coupe, also.

I would buy an S5 over this car every day of the week, and twice on sunday, if I were in that market. Even an A7 5-door is sleeker and better finished than this coupe.

One might even be able to swing a used Aston Vantage V8, if being brand new isn’t a requirement...

Not to mention Jag F-type, or it’s XKR predecessor.

There are options, and pretty much all of them look better than this.

Lexus design hasn’t always been this bad. It was bad enough that the LF-A cost as much as it did, with such poorly designed panel seams and finishing, and odd features, but at least it had a clean profile from a sleek roofline. This doesn’t even get to claim that, and doesn’t look half as good as the recent LF-LC concept car. (not that LF-A looked as good as it’s preceding concept cars, either... even for $400K)

This is an object lesson in “different is not equivalent to better, and is sometimes quite noticeably worse.”

This car is the only one I would buy for the 5.0l N/A V8.. The Mustang only does it for me in EcoBoost form..

I get it, you think the car is ugly. (rather subjective) There are lots of other choices like you pointed out that I’d probably go with too.

The Roush stage 3 Mustang, for the same $63k has another 100hp on top the RC-F and is available with three pedals. Easy decision for me.

Styling may be subjective, but some things are widely ill-received. I just wonder why anyone in a decision making capacity would green-light such a thing, and try to sell it...

But then again, I am not much of a fan of any modern Lexus design.
